As I clicked the camera shutter, my eyes were treated to a kaleidoscope of colors that danced across the vibrant wedding scene before me. The radiant pink wedding dress, adorned with intricate embroidered flowers, was just the starting point for this whimsical celebration. But it wasn’t just the bride’s attire that caught my attention – the emerald green suit worn by the groom added an unexpected pop of color to the proceedings.
And then there were the adorable animal themes that brought a playful touch to every aspect of the event, from the decorations to the attire. It was truly a visual feast, and I felt privileged to have been able to capture it all through my lens.

The classroom at Franklin Park Zoo was transformed into a whimsical jungle on the evening of Danya and Chris’ colorful wedding. The table centerpieces at the reception were also animal/nature-themed and absolutely adorable. They were made by the bride herself!

Inspired by the vibrant art installations at Coachella, this wedding inspiration combines the edgy elements of leather and acrylic with the whimsy of holographic and neon decor. The result is a dynamic visual identity that blends dark and light flowers in bold, vivid colors. One of the standout features was the use of acrylic details throughout the design.
The ceremony took place at one of Detroit’s newest event spaces – a restored whiskey factory turned venue, complete with an original antique bar salvaged from an old mansion. The bride made a statement by pairing her signature leather jacket with a delicate lace dress adorned with flowing appliques. And let’s not forget the show-stopping ‘fuck yeah’ cake topper that added a playful touch to the overall aesthetic.
Danya and Chris had an intimate DIY wedding with vibrant hues that suited their personalities perfectly. They are both huge animal lovers, so having the zoo be their wedding venue just made sense. So did featuring their adorable cat in many aspects of their wedding theme decor! Don’t you just love the kitty on their wedding cake?
They even got to do a few animal encounters during their reception—both the couple and their guests got up close and personal with an iguana and a boa constrictor!
Danya wore a bright pink dress with embroidered flowers, and Chris wore an emerald green suit. The pop of color against the zoo background is simply stunning! If you ever wondered “Is it okay to have a colored wedding dress?” the answer is a resounding YES! I mean, LOOK AT THIS GOWN!
Their entire day was filled with bold, vivid colors from the bouquets and floral arrangements that Danya designed herself. Get a load of those colorful blooms!
If you love color, THIS wedding is going to blow your mind
On a day that was truly special to them, Jay and Kacy exchanged vows on their shared birthday, July 28th. Joining them on this momentous occasion were two other cherished members of their family – their beloved dog Marbie and nine-month-old son Milo. The ceremony was filled with personal touches, including the use of colorful paper decorations that they had collected over the course of their relationship, serving as a sweet reminder of their journey together.
Colorful smoke bombs were used during formal photos at a frozen lake nearby.
All throughout the wedding day, I could feel just how much love and care these two people had for each other. And I could feel how loved they were by all of their friends and family in attendance.
One of my favorite things about intimate weddings is that typically, in this type of ceremony, couples feel more comfortable reading their personalized vows aloud. Of course, true to who they are, Danya & Chris’s vows to each other were super sweet and heartfelt.
One of my favorite moments of the day actually came during their vow reading: Chris said, “I vow to use my privilege to help fight the patriarchy,” and everyone (including me) cheered. Clearly, he’s a keeper!
Because Franklin Park Zoo has beautiful shades of greenery and bamboo accents surrounding the animal habitats, we also got to take some stunning couples portraits on the grounds. I even caught a hippo in the background of one of my shots!
Mutual Weirdness Forever at this multicultural colorful DIY love fest
As we planned our special day, my wife and I were adamant that our wedding would be a vibrant celebration of love, delicious cuisine, and infectious joy. Moreover, we were keen on incorporating elements that reflected our unique cultural backgrounds – her Hawaiian roots and mine from Latin America. We envisioned an unforgettable experience where our closest friends and family could revel in the beauty of our union.
The night ended with everyone dancing and singing along loudly and proudly to some 90’s throwback jams. This colorful wedding at the zoo was a total blast from start to finish—my very favorite kind to be a part of!
