As we celebrated our DC superhero-themed wedding, Justin and I drew inspiration from our shared passions: video games, comic book characters, and costumes. What better way to bring those interests to life than by incorporating them into our special day? However, tragedy struck when my mother, who was set to portray Poison Ivy from the Batman series, passed away just before the event.
Despite this setback, I’m eager to share with you the first happy moment that followed her passing – a celebration of life and love that brought together fellow fans and my remaining family.
Tell us about the ceremony:
As we exchanged vows on the sun-kissed beach, our closest family and friends took on the roles of beloved DC characters. The Joker and Harley Quinn brought their signature flair to the proceedings, while Batman and Robin stood watch as the guardians of love and commitment. Batgirl added a touch of sass and sophistication, while the Riddler kept things interesting with his clever remarks.
The Penguin and Supergirl brought a sense of whimsy and wonder, as John Constantine and Zatanna lent their mystical expertise to the ceremony. Meanwhile, Catwoman and Talia al Ghul represented the mysterious and alluring, and the Spirit added a touch of classic noir charm to the proceedings.
Tell us about your reception:
As we arrived at the venue, we were warmly welcomed with a sumptuous feast that set the tone for an unforgettable evening. The pièce de résistance was undoubtedly the show-stopping cake, adorned with a majestic giant homemade ‘bomb’ that added a touch of whimsy to the occasion.
What was your most important lesson learned?
While assembling the group for our cosplay adventure proved to be the biggest challenge, as some members of our extended family aren’t as passionate about costume play as my fellow enthusiasts, the end result justified the effort. We were thrilled to see everyone’s faces light up with excitement and enjoyment, which was exactly what we had hoped to achieve.
