An Emo Wedding During A Coheed & Cambria Cruise

The celebration began with a visual treat, as the big day was captured by talented photographer Cay Focus Photography. Joining forces to make the magic happen were the offbeat couple, Christine and Rich. The idyllic setting for their special day was none other than the picturesque Bahamas, specifically aboard the Coheed & Cambria Cruise on October 27th, 2021.

We met at the Warped Tour in 2018, bonding over a shared passion for pop-punk music. Fast forward to 2019, and we were inseparable, having booked a cabin together on the S. S. Neverender music festival cruise hosted by Coheed & Cambria. The experience was a perfect blend of music, camaraderie, and romance. As we navigated the challenges of quarantine in 2020, our love only grew stronger, culminating in an unforgettable engagement.

He surprised me with an aquamarine vintage-inspired ring, my birthstone, and proposed making the cruise our dream emo wedding. The rehearsal dinner was a Coheed & Cambria concert, where we found ourselves in the third row. A serendipitous moment saw the guy next to us gift us Josh’s drumstick as a wedding token. We exchanged vows in an intimate beach ceremony in the Bahamas during our one-day port stop.

I wore a short vintage-inspired dress adorned with a lavender petticoat, while he sported Star Trek cufflinks and matching Converse shoes. Our make-up artist and hair stylist, whom we met online, worked her magic to ensure I looked my best. After the ceremony, we danced in the waves, and I even got wet in my dress! Upon returning to the cruise, we were thrilled to meet the entire Coheed & Cambria band, who shared their heartfelt congratulations.

That night, we took to the stage for our first dance to Bayside’s ‘Landing Feet First’ during an onboard Emo Night. To top it all off, we ordered a 60-person wedding cake to share with fellow attendees. Just weeks later, on our dating anniversary, we got anchor tattoos on our ring fingers to symbolize our love and the cruise’s significance in our relationship.

Without a formal reception, we opted for an informal gathering when we disembarked from the cruise. His family members from Florida joined us, along with my mother, sister, brother-in-law, uncle, and two aunts who flew in specifically for the occasion.

We rented a luxurious house with a pool and hot tub, allowing us to spend quality time bonding and getting to know each other better.

A family photoshoot on the beach was a lovely addition, as were our evening strolls and dinner at an upscale restaurant. Having the freedom to relax, unwind, and do as we pleased on our special day – without the pressure of a traditional wedding celebration – was truly liberating.

The laid-back atmosphere allowed for a more intimate setting where everyone could mingle and celebrate together, making it a truly memorable experience.

In reality, there are no rigid rules or one-size-fits-all approaches when it comes to wedding planning. What’s more, we had the freedom to craft an experience that truly reflected our unique personalities and love story as a couple. And we did just that.

Fast-forward to my own special day, where I envisioned nothing more enchanting than exchanging vows with my loved one in an intimate beachside ceremony, surrounded by the magic of a music festival.

Amidst all the joy and romance, the most important takeaway for me was embracing our individuality, letting go of societal expectations, and simply enjoying every moment together.

For our special day, we were fortunate to have the expertise and professionalism of a talented wedding planner, Anne Marie Williams, who ensured that every detail fell into place seamlessly. Additionally, we entrusted our cherished memories to the skilled hands of family photographer Shaun Cruz, whose Instagram handle is @shauncruz.
