Were On A Bender (Har Har) With This Ultra Fun Futurama Wedding

The celebration was captured in vivid detail by the talented Shoot 2 Studios. Joining forces with Offbeat to bring this love story to life were Hollie, a skilled Marketing Manager, and Collin, an IT Consultant with a keen eye for creative collaboration. The star of the show was undoubtedly the wedding itself, which took place on May 13, 2017, at the stunning Sheraton Hotel Columbus, OH, situated in the heart of Capital Square.

As soon as we started planning our wedding, my partner and I were adamant that we wanted to create an unforgettable celebration for ourselves and our loved ones. We envisioned a lively party atmosphere that would reflect our unique personalities and shared passions. To achieve this, we incorporated some unconventional elements into the day’s proceedings. For instance, we included a beer unity ceremony, which added a lighthearted touch to the occasion.

Additionally, we crafted our own vows, ensuring they truly captured the essence of our relationship. We also opted for a one-of-a-kind wedding cake designed and baked by close friends, infusing the day with an air of authenticity. And, as a nod to our shared love of Futurama, we managed to sneak in some clever references throughout the celebration.

We opted for a bespoke ceremony that blended tradition with personal touches, crafting our own script as we prepared to pledge our love to each other in front of loved ones. Our unique vows wove together memories of matching Halloween costumes, late-night Futurama marathons, and heartfelt promises to one another – all accompanied by a beer unity ceremony that added a playful twist.

The atmosphere was filled with laughter and warmth as we had the honor of having Collin’s uncle, who kindly obtained ordination just for the occasion, officiate our special day. As I made my way down the aisle to the iconic strains of The Beatles’ ‘All You Need is Love,’ Collin was escorted by the same song that holds a special place in his heart – Kansas’ powerful ballad ‘Carry On Wayward Son.’

We kicked off the reception with a bang by getting the first dance, bouquet toss, and garter toss out of the way early on. This allowed our guests to focus on what they do best – having a blast! With a dinner buffet in place, we transitioned seamlessly into speeches from my mother, maid of honor, and best man, celebrating our special day with heartfelt toasts.

The cake cutting ceremony followed, featuring a show-stopping masterpiece baked by our closest friends as a thoughtful wedding gift (complete with an adorable Fry & Leela cake topper!). As the evening unfolded, music and dancing took center stage, keeping the party going strong well into the night.

When guests needed a brief respite from their dance moves, we had a photobooth stocked with Futurama backdrops, Cards Against Humanity at each table, and an innovative guestbook featuring a framed Fry and Leela print for our loved ones to sign – the perfect mementos of our unforgettable celebration.

When I first started planning my wedding, people would ask how they could lend a hand. Initially, my response was a hasty ‘it’s okay, we’re all set,’ but little did I know just how much their offers to help would shape the experience. As we began accepting assistance, we discovered that having others involved wasn’t just a courtesy – it actually took some of the stress off our shoulders and led to some truly special moments.

In hindsight, it’s amazing how many small details, like friends and family helping with save-the-dates, hair and makeup, baking, and setting up ceremony decor, have become cherished memories of our big day.
