Gothic Vibes At This Full Moon Helicopter Hangar Wedding

Photography by Isaac Wray Offbeat partners Angela Bright and Jeff Bright brought a touch of the extraordinary to their special day, opting for an unconventional venue that left guests in awe. The scene was set at The Sky Hangar in Pitt Meadows, BC on September 9th, 2023. As we’ve explored numerous one-of-a-kind wedding venues over the years – from fairytale castles to whimsical treehouses and even underwater ceremonies – it’s no surprise that a massive aircraft hangar was next on our radar.

These spaces offer an unparalleled sense of grandeur, with high ceilings and imposing doors creating an atmosphere that is truly hard to replicate in traditional settings. Angela and Jeff seized the opportunity to unleash their creativity, capitalizing on The Sky Hangar’s industrial-chic aesthetic. The result was a unique blend of dark whimsy and celestial charm – even featuring a rare full moon sighting!

As we step inside this extraordinary celebration, join me as I hear Angela recount the unforgettable story of her big day.

Our wedding aesthetic was deeply rooted in the symbolism of my dream ring, which Jeff proposed with. I wore an Alexander McQueen lace gown with multiple layers, while Jeff opted for Saint Laurent black jeans and a tuxedo jacket. His Dior necktie featured a clever script that read: ‘If you can read this, I must love you to let you get this close.’ To complete the look, Jeff paired his Saint Laurent patent velvet Creepers with my matching Saint Laurent Platforms.

The perfect attire for any occasion, our style was cohesive and intentional. Before the ceremony, we took a memorable photo shoot at Riverview Hospital in Coquitlam, BC – an abandoned asylum with stunning patinaed columns and lush greenery. We also showcased our vibrant orange hair, which added a pop of color to the overall aesthetic. Additionally, we incorporated our beloved 1967 Mustang into the proceedings, as it’s a cherished summer tradition for us to take ‘cruise nights’ in the car.

It was essential to make the vehicle a part of our special day. The ceremony took place at The Sky Hangar in Pitt Meadows, BC, under a breathtaking full moon designed by Valley Weddings & Events. Guests were encouraged to dress in black, which harmonized with the moody décor and created a unique atmosphere. The tables featured an array of dark florals, complemented by the somber color scheme.

This gothic-inspired setting was the perfect backdrop for our celebration, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

As we exchanged our vows, we opted for a more intimate approach by not writing our own. Instead, we entrusted the words of our officiant Laura, who is not only a seasoned wedding expert but also a close friend and compassionate death doula. Her guidance and expertise allowed us to focus on the emotional significance of the moment.

As we began our ceremony, the atmosphere was filled with the rhythms of life as Lakota members from our spiritual community drummed sacred songs, wrapping us in a Pendleton blanket – a thoughtful gift symbolizing the closing of this chapter. The night air was alive with the promise of new beginnings, and as we sealed our love under the moon’s gentle light, every moment felt like a dream come true.

The night unfolded like a dream, as we danced under the stars to the soulful sounds of dueling pianos and DeeJayJuice. The air was filled with laughter and love, creating a perfect blend of romance and revelry. The phrase ’til death do us party’ couldn’t have been more fitting, as we celebrated Angela and Jeff’s special day in style. And what better way to commemorate the occasion than with a little bit of skull-tastic flair? With dueling pianos taking center stage, it was truly the perfect day.

But don’t just take our word for it! Check out this video from Beau Boken of Golden Hearts Media, capturing all the highlights of Angela and Jeff’s unforgettable adventure from start to finish.
