Fall In Love With High Fashion At This Gay Wedding In Spain

On a picturesque Spanish mountaintop, Pico del Águila, on July 28th, 2020, the unconventional love story of David Armendariz and Jesse Gudino took center stage. The offbeat couple’s special day was captured by Joy Zamora’s lens, revealing a whimsical celebration amidst the stunning natural backdrop.

As I recall the moment, it was just Jesse and I, standing atop the mountain, surrounded by the vibrant energy of a flamenco gypsy group that had gathered to share in our celebration. The occasion was bittersweet, as we honored the memory of our beloved pet, Darla, who had left us too soon. To mark her passing, we took the time to plant a tree, a symbol of life and resilience, amidst the breathtaking scenery.

As first-generation Americans born and raised in Houston, Texas, my husband David Armendariz and I, Jesse Gudino, have built a successful business together – Studio A Salon – over the past eight years. Our wedding plans had been put on hold three times due to the pandemic, but we didn’t let COVID-19 define our special day. Instead, we seized the opportunity to travel this summer and eloped in one of our favorite countries, Spain.

After researching photographers online, we fell in love with Joy Zamora’s work and decided that Valencia would be the perfect setting for our intimate ceremony. The experience began with a relaxing soak in an ancient palace’s marble tub, followed by a leisurely stroll through the city dressed in haute couture – think Versace and Fendi’s latest designs. We then took to the water, enjoying a serene boat ride on a local lake while indulging in delectable Valencian Paella.

As the day drew to a close, we found ourselves on a secluded mountain top at sunset, El Pico del Águila in Yátova, Spain – the perfect spot to exchange our vows dressed in Alexander McQueen’s elegant attire.

Without the distraction of outside visitors, we opted for an intimate experience by indulging in a traditional Spanish picnic. To add to the ambiance, a local flamenco group treated us to a mesmerizing performance and serenade. What’s even more impressive is that our exceptional wedding planner, Lorena from Eventos Clandestine, managed to pull off this unforgettable celebration within just one week.

In a bold move away from traditional wedding expectations, we opted for an intimate elopement experience that revolved around the two of us. The absence of a large guest list allowed us to focus on the true essence of our union – our love and commitment to one another.
