As we gather here today, I’d like to welcome everyone and acknowledge that we’re all in for a treat. We’ve got an excuse to party, and what better reason than to celebrate Hannah and Joshua’s special day? With us, we have people with eyebrows and those without – and it’s great to see both represented here tonight. Opposites do indeed attract!

Before we dive into the ceremony, let’s get a few things out of the way: please silence and stash all electronic devices, and stick around for some group photos after the event. Now, let’s meet our Four Horsefolk, who’ll help kick off this Wedpocalypse! Joshua, you’re up first. May I introduce… the Groom!

[Josh runs up the aisle and dances back to the sounds of ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ by the Beatles]As the officiant, it’s my job to tie everything together and make sure we have a great time doing it. What a perfect moment to be together! And now, let’s get started with the ceremony. The event we’re gathered here to witness is the Wedpocalypse – a celebration of the end of something old and the beginning of something new.

It’s about exponential acceleration, hurtling towards a day where all our choices come together in an imperfect harmony. A wedding marks the ending of feeling alone in the universe, and it’s time for us to bring about that Wedpocalypse. We need seven seals to make this happen – no kraken, no raining fish, just four special people who’ll help guide Josh and Hannah into their new life together.

These Four Horsefolk each represent a pillar of their union: Romance, Humour, Collaboration, and Intimacy. They’re the instigators of the Wedpocalypse, and with us, they’ll help support this marriage. The Four have made their journey, and now it’s time for one more person to join them – our bride! When she and Josh come together, our Wedpocalypse will begin. All rise!

As Hannah and Josh stood before each other, they exchanged vows that spoke directly to their unique bond. For Josh, it’s the way Hannah’s unwavering support and encouragement push him to be his best self, her vivid imagination sparking his own ambitions, and the joy she brings through her full range of emotions. He promised to continue surprising her with puns, keeping his physical appearance to her liking, and doing his part in maintaining their household responsibilities.

His commitment is also evident in his pursuit of building ‘Atomic Atwood’ into a reality, along with finding innovative ways to delight Hannah. Hannah’s vows were just as heartfelt, as she expressed gratitude for finding Josh, the perfect blend of partner and individual who shares her values. She’s drawn to his self-growth, his quirky beard, and his unwavering dedication to their shared endeavors.

His willingness to take risks and give 100% inspires her to do the same, fostering a sense of mutual admiration that balances out their differences. Together, they’ve discovered an effortless humor and complementary skills that make them an unstoppable team. Hannah promised to celebrate Josh’s unique expression, respect his emotions as they evolve, and provide a safe space for him to grow without expectation.

She also vowed to collaborate in building their life together, free from the pressures of daily responsibilities. Above all, she pledged to strive her best to be the loving partner Josh deserves, as long as he keeps his physical appearance – including that signature butt – in check.

As we exchanged glowing plastic tokens and mock shackles, the atmosphere was set for a unique and unforgettable celebration. Amidst the festivities, Samson took to the stage, pouring over the sacred text of Revelations, Chapter 21, specifically highlighting verses 1, 2, 4, 6, and 17. With an air of solemnity, he pronounced us as husband and wife, sealing our union with a sense of spiritual significance.

As we made our way out of the ceremony, the recessional saw us walking to the tune of ‘Love Reign O’Er Me’ by The Who, surrounded by friends and family who circled around us for a group photo, capturing the essence of our joyous day.

Wedpocalypse: A ‘Good Omens’ wedding

As we embarked on this unconventional journey, it was clear from the start that we wouldn’t be exchanging legal vows. Given our commitment to ethical non-monogamy, we needed an alternative to a traditional wedding celebration. Inspiration struck when I found myself re-reading and binge-watching Good Omens, a beloved Neil Gaiman series. The creative spark led us to coin the term ‘Wedpocalypse’ – a playful twist on the apocalyptic theme that perfectly captured our unique circumstances.
