Rockabilly Lesbian Wedding With A Nontraditional Red Wedding Dress

The wedding storybook was brought to life with the help of Charles Lee Photography, capturing every special moment. The offbeat duo behind it all, Dawn and Jessica, shared their love and commitment at Virginia’s House in downtown Glendale, Arizona on April 1st, 2016.

As a quirky couple with a passion for artistry, Jessica (aka Nerdface) and I, Pixie, sought to create an unforgettable celebration that reflected our playful and whimsical nature. We opted for a rockabilly-themed party, complete with candy-filled centerpieces and an array of goofy photo props to capture the fun. To add an extra layer of flair, we asked our guests to dress in black and red – I even took it a step further by wearing a non-traditional red wedding gown (more on that later).

The end result was a night filled with laughter, love, and an infectious sense of joy. It was truly the perfect experience.

It’s a funny anecdote that still brings a smile to my face – when Jessica and I first met, her friend asked if she was interested in me. Her response? A straightforward ‘maybe.’ Fast forward to our wedding day on April Fool’s Day, where I got to have the last laugh. As I stood before her, ready to take her hand, I repeated the same word that had started it all: ‘maybe.’ This inside joke was lost on everyone else present, but for us, it was a perfect way to commemorate our love.

In fact, we kept our vows brief and heartfelt, knowing that our connection spoke louder than any elaborate speech.

As we twirled into the night, the rhythm of the music propelled us forward, and I couldn’t help but laugh as a few friends attempted to recreate the iconic Dirty Dancing lift. Meanwhile, I curated my own playlist, weaving together an eclectic mix of tracks that showcased our couples’ anthem ‘Shut Up and Dance’, alongside some spooky fun with ‘Monster Mash’. Our goal was to infuse the night with a sense of carefree playfulness, and judging by the infectious energy, it’s clear we succeeded.

When searching for the perfect red wedding dress, it’s easy to get caught up in conventional thinking and overlook unconventional options. For me, finding that special dress was a challenge – I knew what I wanted, but couldn’t seem to find it anywhere. It wasn’t until I broadened my scope and looked beyond the typical bridal section that I stumbled upon a stunning tea party-inspired dress hidden away in the bridesmaids’ or prom department.

This experience taught me to remain open-minded and think creatively when searching for something special. Who knows, you might just discover your own unique gem by looking outside the box!
