Our offbeat adventure began with a pre-wedding photo shoot at Detroit’s Elmwood Cemetery, a certified arboretum that set the tone for our ‘Wed Til’ We’re Dead’ celebration. Little did we know, COVID-19 had other plans. Initially, we planned for 100 guests, but as restrictions tightened, our guest list dwindled to just 8 of us. In hindsight, it was perfect. Having my brother officiate and his fiancée manage the music with a phone and Bluetooth speaker made for an intimate, special day.

I had fallen in love with my dress from Viper Apparel almost a year prior to getting engaged, knowing exactly what I needed for our unique celebration. With Andy, I knew we’d create memories that would last a lifetime. The Satanic wedding ceremony was a highlight, with Andy crafting his own vows but forgetting to bring them – he remembered everything by heart! We had a good laugh afterwards when he realized the vows were on his phone all along.

My brother, our officiant, crafted a special ceremony for us, and we gave him the green light to don his plague doctor attire, fitting given the pandemic’s concerns. It was an unforgettable experience.

And here are my Satanic wedding vows:

This ring, your grandma’s gift to me, serves as a poignant reminder of the love we share. Grandma Shirley was a significant figure in your life, filling Sundays with warmth, good food, and music. Her legacy lives on through you, and I’m grateful that she left this piece of her behind. Just like the ring, you’ve brought a sense of beauty and imperfection into my life. It needed repair, but I love it just the same, and we’ve worked together to make it shine.

As with any worthwhile possession, relationships require maintenance. You’ve shown me that you’re dedicated to putting in the effort to keep our bond strong. Whether it’s taking time for ourselves or addressing the small things, like daily conversations, your efforts never go unnoticed. I hope you know how much I appreciate everything you do. Sometimes my favorite moments are simply being with you, doing nothing at all. Knowing that we can face anything together is the greatest feeling of all.

Behold this autistic bride and her amazing goth wedding

For me as an autistic bride, having control over every aspect of my life is crucial. This meticulous approach applies to every decision I make, including wedding planning. With a tendency to plan out every detail, I found myself taking charge of the entire process, much like how I navigate daily life.
