A Quirky Time Travel Transgender Lesbian Wedding

At a glance, our offbeat wedding celebration was all about embracing the whimsy of time travel. The Doctor Who, Back to the Future, and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure franchises made memorable appearances throughout the day, influencing decor and attire alike.
Jenn opted for a Roaring Twenties-inspired look, donning an emerald green flapper dress and an intricate feathered headpiece that truly made her shine. Meanwhile, Bree channeled an early 1960s vibe with a short dress, vintage accessories, and day gloves – the perfect blend of playfulness and poise.
As proud individuals who embody change and innovation, Jenn is a trans woman activist, gamer geek, IT professional, and improv actor, while Bree is a lesbian mom, teacher, body positivity advocate, and so much more. Together, they celebrate their unique bond and the power of embracing individuality.
Some of the offbeat details that made our special day truly unforgettable include:* A thoughtful touch: We asked each guest to wear a name tag featuring their preferred pronouns, underscoring the importance of respect and inclusivity.* Unique favors: Instead of traditional goodies, we set up a station where guests could decorate their own hats – perfect for shading themselves from the sun while still being part of the celebration.
* A non-traditional seating arrangement: We opted for a concert-in-the-park style setup, allowing guests to mingle and socialize in a relaxed atmosphere. Chairs were available for those who needed them, ensuring everyone felt comfortable and at ease.
Tell us about the ceremony:
We embarked on a unique adventure to create our special ceremony, with two non-negotiable elements: a TARDIS and Mac McGregor. We enlisted Mac’s expertise as a well-known trans man and community organizer whom Jenn had met while working on his Seattle City Council campaign. Moreover, we asked him to channel Rufus from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure in style. He far exceeded our expectations.
The ceremony was infused with spontaneous elements, commencing inside the blue tent-TARDIS setup, complete with a fog machine and TARDIS sound effects. As we emerged from the tent, theater-in-the-park style, each member of the wedding party shared puns related to time travel, adding a touch of whimsy. The actual ceremony was concise yet heartfelt, with a brief interruption by Bree exclaiming, ‘I really LIKE this!
‘ The most pivotal moment for both of us occurred when we locked eyes and savored the essence of our special day. In the midst of chaos, time stood still, and it was precisely what we had envisioned.
Tell us about the reception:
As the ceremony came to a close, Mac intuitively sensed that what we really needed wasn’t another formal greeting or stiff reception line – but a genuine hug fest. And so, we created a HUG line where we could freely embrace and connect with our loved ones. The atmosphere was electric as we wrapped ourselves around each other, feeling the warmth of love and gratitude radiate from every guest.
As our friends and family mingled and dined, Loren, our photographer, gently guided us to steal away for intimate moments of connection – breathing in each other’s essence and cherishing these quiet, tender moments.
Meanwhile, the reception unfolded with joyful abandon. We delighted in watching our friends and loved ones laugh and play together, while our kids ran wild and free in the meadow, their laughter carrying on the breeze.
What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding?
When reflecting on my wedding experience, I’m reminded of three essential lessons that are deeply intertwined. The first is the importance of self-love and acceptance. It’s crucial to love your body, quirks, and true self, as well as your partner. This positivity can be infectious and radiates outward, making it a beautiful thing to capture in photographs. My own journey to embracing body positivity was sparked by a challenging experience at a boutique where I felt belittled and disrespected.
Fortunately, my partner was there to offer support and encouragement, urging me to find self-love and move forward. This led me to later discover the perfect dress at David’s Bridal, which fit perfectly with my vision. Today, I use this experience to teach water aerobics, help others cultivate self-acceptance, and assist in styling others. The second lesson is that the marriage itself is what truly matters, not just the wedding day.
It’s essential to take time to simply be together, even if it means taking a few moments for yourself. This quiet intimacy can be incredibly rejuvenating and sets the tone for a strong and healthy relationship. Finally, I’ve learned that it’s okay to say no to certain expectations or obligations. We attempted to do too much ourselves on our wedding day, which left us feeling exhausted and stressed. If we could go back in time, we would opt for a more relaxed potluck picnic instead.
Thankfully, our friends came through and helped make everything work out, saving the day. This experience taught me that it’s essential to prioritize my well-being and delegate tasks when necessary. By doing so, I can focus on what truly matters – building a strong and loving relationship with my partner.
