Our special day revolved around the breathtaking Chotronette dress I wore. The gown was meticulously crafted, blending inspiration from two of their designs with my own personal touches. This bespoke creation set the tone for the entire wedding.

Meanwhile, Amos remained oblivious to the red rose and black butterfly motifs that permeated our celebration, but he was a sport about it and even surprised me with a striking red rose jacket – his willingness to go along with my whims truly made the day more memorable.

Tell us about your Las Vegas wedding ceremony:

When it came time for Amos and me to renew our vows in 2021, we drew inspiration from the promises we had made to each other five years earlier at our backyard wedding. Amos pulled out his original vow, which was a humorous ‘I vow to make Nancy happy every day’ – but he knew that couldn’t be the only thing he said. He then revealed his full vows, which were a perfect blend of sweet and funny, reflecting my own goals for our ceremony.

His vows highlighted my strengths, saying I love how strong my beliefs are, and you never back down, how I shine in any setting, and how much I care about everything. He also vowed to figure out dinner and make sure I eat when I’m indecisive – a promise he has kept many times. My own vows were the result of months of reflection and brainstorming. I carried a piece of paper with me wherever I went, jotting down ideas whenever they came to me.

My vows started by expressing gratitude for finding a partner who makes me feel safe, loved, and like my best friend. I vowed to be the wife Amos deserves – someone he looks forward to coming home to, someone to celebrate, laugh, and cry with, and someone who remembers his work badge and breakfast in the mornings. I also promised to lay off the garlic in my cooking after a memorable incident, although it seems Amos eventually grew accustomed to it.

Finally, I quoted a Beatles song – ‘If you need somebody to love, just look into my eyes. I’ll be there to make you feel right’ – which has become a special reminder of our commitment to each other.

What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding?

As we navigated the unpredictable landscape of COVID-19, our wedding planning journey became a rollercoaster of uncertainty. Initially, we were forced to reschedule once, leaving us wondering if our special day would even materialize on the second attempt. Amidst these challenges, I faced an additional hurdle: having to replace my maid of honor not once, nor twice, but a staggering three times.

I kicked my best friend out of my wedding and I refuse to feel bad about it

As my wedding day approaches, a few harsh realities about my friendship with the lead lady have surfaced. Specifically, our connection has undergone a significant shift. I’ve since chosen to reevaluate my relationship with her and, as a result, removed her from my wedding party. This decision is rooted in my refusal to compromise on what’s truly important.

In hindsight, planning a wedding can be an illuminating experience. It often reveals the true nature of people and their relationships.

I’ve since parted ways with some acquaintances who claimed to be close friends but ultimately showed little enthusiasm for my special day. While this was difficult to accept, it has allowed me to foster deeper bonds with those who genuinely care about my well-being and are thrilled for my happiness.
